Following Microsoft’s master plan to cut prices on their Xbox 360 video gaming console across Europe, sales of the system have jumped by forty-percent.

Straight from the maker’s mouth comes word that the Xbox 360 Premium bundle will be marked down to $349.99 from its current $399.99 price point on Wednesday. Additionally, the Core package is getting a $20 cut to $279.99 and the Elite bundle is dropping $30 to $449.99. Microsoft’s press release also notes the upcoming Halo 3 Special Edition console, which will retail for $399.99 and include everything the Premium has with a few more bells and whistles, in addition to a Spartan armor-like finish. In addition to a price cut on the 60 GB model, Sony has announced a new SKU of the PS3 for the US (previously only available in Korea): an 80 GB model for the $599 price. The price of the 60 GB model will go down to $499. In order to oust complaints that $100 for 20 GB is too much, Sony will bundle MotorStorm with the 80 GB model. MotorStorm usually retails for $59.99.
This is a move that shows Sony is trying to expand its marketshare in the United States. According to Gamespot, the PS3 only sold 82,000 units in May compared to Xbox 360’s 155,000 units and Wii’s 338,000 units.
According to Kotaku, some select stores in the US have started selling the Playstation 3 at $499, instead of the $599 norm. This could be a good time for those that were watching the PS3 to jump at it, givin the fact that it might not be a permanent price drop.

According to their Sunday ad for the week of June 17, Circuit City will be offering a free copy of Shadowrun when you buy Halo 2 Vista at the already low price of $39.99. I haven’t made the jump to Vista yet, but it sounds like a great deal for anyone who has.
