Review: Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 1 (PC, Xbox 360)

May 22nd, 2008 posted by Link in PC, Reviews, Xbox 360

A long time ago, Street Fighter was turned into a movie that spawned a video game adaption. Penny Arcade’s game proves that game comic adaptations at least aren’t a bad idea like the previously mentioned nightmare of a brawler. While it’s far from perfect, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 1 is full of laughs, fun gameplay, and wonderful visuals by Xbox Live Arcade standards, but suffers many of the same problems as other modern RPGs. Sega Superstars Tennis okay, has weak tennis

Boxart of Sega Superstars Tennis

Sega Superstars Tennis, while seeming as bad an idea as “Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games”, isn’t the usual “Out of the factory into the store” from Sega. Unlike recent Sega titles, it’s actually enjoyable for some.

Brutal Reviews: An Introduction

We’ve all seen other reviews on other sites before. Sites that plow through an early review copy of a game in order to get something published on release day. Sites that have a 10-point scale but never seem to give lower than a 7. Sites that buy into hype and give high scores to games that don’t deserve them. That’s where I come in. (more…)

Geometry Wars: Galaxies more expensive, much greater

December 2nd, 2007 posted by The Illusion in Reviews, Wii

Geometry Wars started out as a minigame on the Xbox game “Project Gothem Racing 2″. Since then, it’s racked up a large following. To those who don’t know, Geometry Wars is essentially you (an odd shape) shooting at other shapes in an asteroids-style. (more…)

Hellgate: London given “Average” reviews, but praise for Crafting and Graphics.

November 9th, 2007 posted by The Illusion in Reviews

Hellgate: London is a game for Windows, developed by the giants at EA Games and the company “Flagship Studios”.

Meant to “Raise the bar” for RPG games by adding things such as better action, the game has apparently not raised the bar at all, and instead shown a more average presentation. (more…)

“Super Mario Galaxy” released, critics can’t get their hands off it.

November 7th, 2007 posted by The Illusion in Reviews

Super Mario Galaxy has been a game that has gone through shadow after shadow. First intended to be a launch title or similar (not unlike Super Smash Bros: Brawl), Super Mario Galaxy has had a surprisingly small amount of info in previous times. While the game was talked about much during early stages, news about it was so uncommon, some regularly forgot it existed.

But that’s in the past, because now the game is coming out in less than a week, and it’s gonna sell faster than hot cakes! Almost every person who’s reviewed it has given it a 9, and if it’s not a 9, it’s a 9.5, or a 10! This game is the Mario game most people have been waiting for since Super Mario Sunshine (or for those disapointed in Sunshine, Super Mario 64), and it’s doing quite well! (more…)

August roundup - Metroid, BioShock, Virtual Console, and Sony

August 29th, 2007 posted by Turbo in PC, Reviews

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was released on Tuesday. It has a 91% average review, according to Game Rankings. Nintendo Power gave the game a 10/10, which is surprising, as only one other game - the Gamecube version of Resident Evil 4 - has received a 10/10 from Nintendo Power. The only review not in the 90s or higher is GameSpot, which gave MP3 an 8.5.

As a buildup to the release of MP3, Nintendo released the original Metroid on the Virtual Console on August 13, followed by Super Metroid on August 20. This is the first time Super Metroid has been re-released since the Super Nintendo era. If you haven’t played this, go download it now!

You may also have heard of some little game called BioShock that’s making the rounds right now. If you haven’t heard about it, don’t worry. It’s only the fourth best game ever. It’s available now on both PC and Xbox 360.

According to a press release, Sony is releasing a white PS2 packaged with SingStar and 2 mics. The MSRP is $150. I think we all know what console they may be trying to emulate.
