Playstation 3 and PSP firmware updates

Both the Playstation 3 and the PSP get a nice firmware update. The PSP, going from 3.51 to 3.52 is basically getting just a couple of security enhancements. However, the PS3 got a few really nice upgrades.

The PS3’s updates include:

  • Custom background wallpapers
  • Emoticon support in messages
  • Games in XMB can be sorted.
  • Ability to adjust movies options while watching movie

E3 ‘07 PSP Redesign Details

Joystiq apparently got a hands on look at the PSP’s new manual, and has a list of features that the PSP is receiving. Along with a slimmer looking design, the PSP includes a better battery design, which allows it to be more efficient, but gives no extra battery life. The upgrades allow for USB recharges, includes more RAM for faster loading (and allows you to do more) and better video out support.

E3 ‘07 Colored PSP

Yes, that’s right. Sony is releasing a new white PSP in September as part of a large package which includes several games. Also, they’re releasing a ‘Star Wars’ battle pack with a special Star Wars PSP with Darth Vader on the back. Both of these will retail for $199.99.

E3 ‘07 New PSP version

Sony announced this E3 a new version of the PSP. The changes are minor, but nice, including the 33% weight reduction, better battery life, and output enhancement (better video). It also has other new features. We’ll post more when it becomes available.

Sega announces ‘Sonic Rivals 2′

Today Sega announced Sonic Rivals 2 for the PSP. The game is geared to launch in the Fall of 2007 with many improvements and changes to the core gameplay. Improvements include:

  • Improved “jostling” system for better Head-to-Head combat
  • Many more power-ups
  • Use of one disc to for multiplayer through WiFi
  • Normal characters have been added in
  • Each character has their own unique moves
  • Card system revamped for more customization

I never got a chance to play the first Rivals, but I’ve heard it was pretty good. For all 3 of you PSP owners out there, keep an eye out for this one!

Nintendo sells a few Wii consoles, and maybe a few games or something

In what we consider a largely underwhelming performance, Nintendo only managed to sell a measly 338,000 units in the United States last month. What a bomb. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that’s more than the PS3. And the Xbox 360. Combined. (more…)
