Guitar Hero DS Sells 300,000 in First Week, Doesn’t Look Any Less Ridiculous

July 3rd, 2008 posted by Link in Uncategorized

Guitar Hero: On Tour has managed to move 300,000 units in what Activision calls a “record breaking performance.” Well, I guess, but the only sales record it broke was their own, outselling Spiderman and Tony Hawk’s numerous appearances on Nintendo’s handheld. It did however, shatter the record for “handheld games that make your relatives most concerned,” previously held by Phoenix Wright.

Xbox 360 Price Drop Coming in Two Weeks

June 26th, 2008 posted by Link in General News, Rumors / Speculation, Xbox 360

According to a leaked K-Mart advertisement, the Xbox 360 “Pro” bundle (with 20 GB HD and HDMI) will be getting a $50 (or 15%) price cut on Sunday, July 6. The wording in the advertisement of “New low price” as opposed to “sale” hints that it’s probably a universal price drop.

No word yet on the Arcade bundle, but if Microsoft decides to drop the price it will likely end up costing less than the Nintendo Wii.

This drop is probably in response to MGS4’s console-moving momentum in the US and Japan. The PS3 is widely expected to outsell the Xbox 360 for the month of June, and sales numbers over the past three months haven’t been too favorable for Microsoft either.

I wasn’t expecting to be interested in anything happening at Ubidays - maybe some info on the new Raving Rabbids or Tom Clancy games, but lo and behold, Ubisoft has just warmed the hearts of niche gamers everywhere. (more…)

Review: Penny Arcade Adventures Episode 1 (PC, Xbox 360)

May 22nd, 2008 posted by Link in PC, Reviews, Xbox 360

A long time ago, Street Fighter was turned into a movie that spawned a video game adaption. Penny Arcade’s game proves that game comic adaptations at least aren’t a bad idea like the previously mentioned nightmare of a brawler. While it’s far from perfect, Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 1 is full of laughs, fun gameplay, and wonderful visuals by Xbox Live Arcade standards, but suffers many of the same problems as other modern RPGs. After a pretty solid month of releases, the games industry kicks off April to deliver some truly underwhelming titles. Don’t worry, GTA IV and Mario Kart Wii are right around the corner, but we’ve got to wade through the crap to get to it first. Hit the jump for a “list” of this week’s notable releases. (more…)

Check it out for yourself. The street view has been online for a while, but never to this detail. I can’t imagine that it would usually be an invasion of privacy, but for these unfortunate fellows you can go around to the back of the car and see the license plate. Is this the first of many Google-busts to come?

Take that, critics: Sonic gets even worse

New information has been released about the Sonic Unleashed, a game that was previously nothing more than a trademark, and gamers are quickly wishing that the game was still nothing more than a trademark. Rather than waiting for Bioware to step in and do damage control on the Sonic universe, Sega has lighted a time bomb called development that looks to ruin the hedgehog even further. What could possibly make Sonic worse than his appearance in 2006’s Sonic the Hedgehog, where he had a disgusting romance (besides the bad camera system)? (more…)

N+ Developers Talk Smack About XBLA, Gamers Freak Out

Gamasutra recently posted an interview with N+ developers Metanet Software and Slick Entertainment discussing some of the difficulties they had during the game’s production, most notably, some griefs with Xbox Live Arcade. In response to the backlash they’ve received from the community, Metanet has posted an article in their defense on their own site. Is this all overblown, or does Metanet actually some something worthwhile to tell the community? (more…)
