It’s been nearly a decade since the famous bear and bird duo had have a true sequel to their Nintendo 64 blockbusters Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. Now it’s time for the folks at Rare to shake up the way we look at the beloved series and put it in drive…

For anyone’s who has ever owned a Nintendo 64, one probably has heard of the Banjo-Kazooie games. These 3D platforming games involve a backpack wielding bear named Banjo and his smart-mouthed bird partner Kazooie. Using different abilities, collecting different objects, and going though vast colorful worlds in order to defeat the ugly rhyme speaking witch Gruntildta and her ridiculous plots.

These games were known for their great platforming elements, creative character designs, catchy music, and brilliant writing. But times have changed, and Rare’s bringing a long-awaited prequel to the Xbox 360, Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts.

This time around, the game features new elements to the Banjo-Kazooie universe. Instead of a great focus on platforming elements, Rare has decided to put a great emphasis on vehicles. With hundreds of parts to collect, Banjo and Kazooie will be able to build and operate custom made vehicles from parts scattered across various levels. These vehicles will help Banjo and Kazooie navigate through various levels and complete various missions. Xbox LIVE players will also be able to race their friends online through various modes such as classic racing, king of the hill, and many more unannounced game modes.

The core pieces are still there, Jiggys and Notes will be returning along with some old faces. Shaman turned mechanic Mumbo Jumbo will be helping you with your vehicle construction, while your (now living) friend Bottles the Mole has taken the grand occupation as Tour Guide of the main hub, Showdown Town which is bigger and grander than anything Rare has created before. And of course, Gruntilda is back with a new secret assistant along with the Lord of Games, or LOG. This new character supposedly has helped create every game in the Universe. Who knows what LOG will be up to for this game.

The game is still in development, and Rare has yet to announce many other features and gameplay styles. We’ll be keeping our eye out…but so will every other Rare based fansite that has been waiting nearly a decade for something like this to happen.
