Virtual Console Monday: April 25 & May 5, 2008

Since last week only had one game released, I decided to just merge it to this week, rather than devote an entire post to just one game, which is why there was no article on Monday that week. Fantastic!

Firstly, last week, the only game brought onto the console was Double Dragon for the NES, being released a week after River City Ransom was nice, giving people not one, but TWO games where a couple of friends could team up and bash eachother’s/enemies’ skulls in. If you were a fan of River City Ransom, Double Dragon will probably leave you satisfied.

Now, for THIS week, we got Pokemon Puzzle League for the N64 and Renegade for the NES. Puzzle League is essentially Tetris Attack with a Pokemon theme to it and some added features to boot. If you’re a fan of Pokemon or Tetris Attack, you might like Puzzle League. If you don’t feel like paying so much for a puzzle game, you might want to just hold out for Tetris Attack to arrive to another console for a cheaper price.

Renegade is actually kind of a prequel to River City Ransom. It doesn’t play a whole lot like it though, but it does feature the characters from it’s more popular brother. Renegade is nowhere near as fun as River City Ransom though, and if you download this expecting another game like it, you will be let down by what Renegade has to offer. Only true fans of the beat-em-up genre will be sure to enjoy this, and even then they might be pressed to, considering that it really has nothing making it stand out. Unless you want every beat-em-up on the VC, I recommend you avoid this game.
