Virtual Console, March 31

In a change of events, Nintendo decided to unleash the Sega Master System upon the American masses for its first time today… but how does it all fare? Read on, brave Virtual Console user, to find out!

Well, to solve the mystery you guys have been wondering about for oh so long, it does get off to a somewhat good start with Wonder Boy. It costs 500 Wii points, which I assume will be the norm for the rest of the Master System games that’ll be ported. It’s a fairly enjoyable platformer, and the forefather of the more widely known Adventure Island (Hell, Adventure Island basically IS Wonder Boy, just with different characters due to the licensing issues.) It’s fairly inexpensive, and platformer fans probably won’t be disappointed with what they get in Wonder Boy.

That aside, we also get Cruis’n USA for the N64 to go along with it. It’s a fairly run-of-the-mill racing game with nothing to really write home about or recommend over the other racing games already out on the Virtual Console, but if you have an itch for new racing games, this might just tickle your fancy until something new arrives. Be warned though, it was released fairly close to the N64’s launch, so chances are it won’t have the best framerate around, if that’s what you look for in a racer.

Looking back, this wasn’t quite the most eventful week, but ah well. Beggers can’t be choosers…
