Hellgate: London given “Average” reviews, but praise for Crafting and Graphics.

Hellgate: London is a game for Windows, developed by the giants at EA Games and the company “Flagship Studios”.

Meant to “Raise the bar” for RPG games by adding things such as better action, the game has apparently not raised the bar at all, and instead shown a more average presentation.

RPGs, as they are acronyms of “Role Playing Game”, are meant to be games in which you play the role of a character. Apparently, one of the problems with the game is that it’s characters lack “Depth”, being less than stellar and very ignorable. While this can be somewhat common with any game, RPGs are usually known for their character depth, and personality, and thus this does not raise the bar at all, and looks like it couldn’t even grab it.

But, thankfully, this doesn’t neccesarily mean that the game is bad. Praise for it’s Graphics comes, with it’s art design praised as very fitting. But the game’s real appeal is it’s unique way of letting you handle your character. Whereas in most games, you almost never need to upgrade your equipment, as getting new equipment lets you upgrade that instead and get even better bonuses. In this, you can actually find a really nice helmet and you can find a rifle to call Helga, and you never really need to replace them. You can just upgrade more and more, and in this aspect, you can find more diversity in others if you play online, instead of walking into a populated area full of everybody holding Wurt’s third leg and jedi robes. This also means that the game’s crafting system is nice, as you can make stuff as well, and thus, instead of buying or finding Helga, you can make Helga. You can upgrade her, you can even end up creating Hugo for someone else. This, and the thus excellent crafting system, do raise the bar in one aspect.

Scores for the game include:

IGN: 6.8/10

UGO: B-

Gamespy: 3/5

PC Gamer: 89/100

These scores end up giving the game a 75% on Game Rankings.
