Sony being sued… again.

July 31st, 2007 posted by KJ in Rumors / Speculation

As reported by Gamespot, Sony is currently being sued by Parallel Processing Corporation over the, well, parallel processing technology in the Cell processor. PPC claims Sony infringes a 1991 patent they made for ’synchronizing parallel processing with shared memory.’

The company is seeking damage and attorney fees, and if it has it’s way, would have Sony remove all products violating the patent. It may just be me, but I think it took way to long for someone to realize and take action. I believe there should be a period of time to respond to a product that’s out there if it violates your patent before you can go all wily-nilly with suing people and if you fail to do so, forfeit your attempt to make money off of it.

However, this case hasn’t yet started up, so we’ll wait and see what happens.

They would also have to sue IBM as they make a profit off of it. 2 multibilliondollar companies vs 1 tiny company no one has ever heard of.

    Patent trolls are just retarded.

Well, if this is the case the the PS3 is gonna be off the market right? I don’t know for sure, but I guess that just leaves Xbox 360 and Wii (if they walk the walk, know what I’m sayin.)

yes… I highly doubt you have to worry about the PlayStation 3. Even if, and that’s a big if, Sony were to lose, they can still just work out an agreement to pay royalties to the company in order to keep the PS3 on the market.
