Nintendo sells a few Wii consoles, and maybe a few games or something

In what we consider a largely underwhelming performance, Nintendo only managed to sell a measly 338,000 units in the United States last month. What a bomb. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that’s more than the PS3. And the Xbox 360. Combined.
Not only that, but Nintendo squeaked two Wii games into the top five games of the month: Mario Party 8 slid into number 2, and Wii Play fell to number 5. Worth noting is that Mario Party 8 was released on May 29, and it still managed to be #2 for the month with only three days of availability. Nintendo also enjoyed their usual success with the DS, selling 423,000 of the handhelds America can’t stop touching and seeing the new versions of Pokemon debut at #1 and 4. Jokes aside, Nintendo is kicking ass and taking names just as they promised. Although they’re not entirely responsible, these sales figures seriously contributed to a shocker: the game industry sales as a whole were up a full 50% from this time last year.
Microsoft enjoyed mild success with the Xbox 360 (155,000 sold) and Sony continued their trend with the Dreamcaplaystation 3 (81,000 sold), however both companies were down from their April sales. Sony DID manage to move bout 220,000 PSPs, though, so all is not lost. And the PS2 outdid the Xbox 360 with about 180,000. Ironically, Microsoft’s system carried four slots on the top ten (Guitar Hero II, Spiderman 3, Forza Motorsport 2, Command & Conquer 3), whereas the PS2 had only two (Spiderman 3, Guitar Hero II).
Also in are the figures from this week in Japan. Nintendo moved 117,000 Ninteno DS units (compare that to 24,000 PSPs) and 64,000 Wiis (compare to 9,000 PS3s and 2,000 360s). If you’re keeping count, that means Nintendo was responsible for almost 80% of hardware sales. Disproportionate market share? Yes. A crapload more money than anyone thought they’d make with these systems? Yesyesyes. At this rate, the Wii is going to pass the Xbox 360 for total unit sales by August.
